KME Metal Stamping

Full Power for Small High-Tech Solutions

KME has completed its range of services in and around copper and copper alloys with a modern in-house stamping department. With the addition of this service, KME is now in the unique position of offering industrial customers all-round know-how from a single source, from foundry engineering, rolling technology and metal alloying to material and process consulting all the way through to the finished stamping product.

Car electrics are a good example of the increased quality requirements placed on today's stamping products. For a long time now, there has been a constant increase in the use of automobile system components and switching circuits, with a corresponding need for highly conductive, hardwearing and durable materials for electrical contacts. One of the most important goals currently driving demand in automobile electrification is the changeover to a 48V on-board power supply. This development will place new demands on high-voltage contact requirements.

In order to manage the higher electrical voltage, KME has developed STOL®95, a new material for sheet formats which combines highest electrical conductivity and an extraordinary relaxation stability. This guarantees contact safety at all times. Under the brand name of ELBRODUR®, the same alloy is produced by KME as rods, so pin and sleeve contacts can also be manufactured using exactly the same material.

Apart from electrical contact parts, the KME Metal Stamping department in Osnabrueck produces bus bars, battery cell connectors, components for press-fit technology, crimp contacts, lead frames and inserts up to complete modules. KME’s modern stamping machines can handle material thicknesses from 0.1 to 5.0 mm, with pressing forces ranging between 50t and 300t. Customers can choose between KME’s copper and copper alloy materials and nearly any other metal, e.g. strip steel, chromium-nickel steel, aluminium and many more.
