The College building I in Freiburg's city centre, together with buildings II and III, forms the "Platz der Weißen Rose" (White Rose Square) named in memory of the student resistance fighters. The building is a cultural monument of special significance. It is used by the University of Freiburg primarily as a lecture hall and seminar building. New fire protection requirements recently demanded, among other things, the addition of an exterior escape staircase, which was realised using TECU® Classic_bond panels
The guiding principle for the supplementary building components was a moderately modern design using materials related to the building.
The abstract sculptural appearance of the staircase is a careful complement to the existing structure. The copper envelope, which changes over time and is realised with TECU® Classic_bond panels, picks up on the materiality of the metal roofs and rain gutters of the main building.
TECU® Classic_bond offers all the aesthetic properties of the TECU® Classic surface but can be installed much more quickly and easily. In accordance with the classification of the reaction of building materials to fire, the material is available in B-s1,d0 and also available on request in A2. TECU® Bond is extremely even and warp resistant, has an optimised weight, low thermal expansion and high mechanical resistance to wind loads, impact, shock and pressure.
