With its new SaCup line, KME is launching a range of copper and copper alloy products whose antimicrobial properties improve health protection in highly frequented public places. The SaCup line includes finished and semi-finished products that are used in particular for the design of frequently contacted surfaces such as handles, door knobs, stair railings, taps, etc., in order to neutralise the viruses and bacteria present there.
Thanks to its intrinsic properties, copper can neutralise viruses, bacteria and fungi in a very short time. This effect has been scientifically proven for a variety of germs such as E. Coli, influenza, MRSA, rotavirus, salmonella, campylobacter, legionella and also coronaviruses (including SARS-CoV2).
About 80% of all infectious diseases are transmitted through surface contact. SaCup products are therefore ideal for significantly reducing the risk of infection in healthcare, public transport, retail, catering and schools.
A number of internationally recognised studies have investigated the role of material surfaces in the transmission of infections. The resulting scientific evidence confirms a broad consensus on the excellent antimicrobial properties of copper and their lasting effectiveness.
Studies have shown that copper reduces exposure to the clinically relevant pathogens that are often causally associated with nosocomial infections.
A study by the Institute of Virology at the University of Pisa dating from 2020 demonstrated that the viral load of SARS-CoV2 on copper surfaces is reduced by 90% in 10 minutes and neutralised 100% in 60 minutes. This property also applies to copper alloys, where there is 85% neutralisation after 10 minutes and 100% neutralisation after 60 minutes.
SACUP AT LINATE AIRPORT IN MILAN
With the SaCup line, KME has helped to improve the safety of Linate airport in Milan. Thanks to the collaboration with the airport company SEA (Società Esercizi Aeroportuali), SaCup products were used for the design of the airport's strategic surfaces. From stair handrails to luggage trolley handles and airport bus grab bars, copper antimicrobial surfaces make passengers' travel experience safer.
